Some of you may notice a change in our tee time policies and pricing for next week if you are booking a tee time Monday-Thursday.  This week, in an effort to make online booking easier for our leagues, we made the price of all our tee times the league price.  We were not expecting the demand for tee times that occurred.  Here are the changes…

  • We are going back to our originally posted green fees for this season (Monday-Thursday $35, Friday-Sunday $41)
  • We are no longer requiring prepayment if you book online for Tuesdays or Wednesdays
  • If you want to take advantage of a league or senior discounted rate, it may be easier to call 508-830-3535 to make your tee time.
  • If you plan on playing regularly at Southers Marsh under the COVID restrictions, we recommend having us store your credit card info on file to streamline the reservation and payment process.  It will be stored securely in our point of sale system and is inaccessible to staff.
  • We are no longer accepting online tee times for singles.  Since we are not pairing golfers up and we have limited inventory of tee times, we are asking that you call 508-830-3535 to book your single time for before 8 AM or after 4 PM on busy days, or on a day with plenty of availability.

Thank you for your cooperation, we are working through our processes to find the best solution.

We appreciate your support,
Big Will, Willie, and the rest of the Southers Marsh Team

The regulations have been updated to allow use of golf carts for those who need an accommodation.  Please see below for the exact rules, but it is our understanding that if you want to take a golf cart please bring a letter to “certify in writing” that you have “a disability that requires use of a cart.”

At noon today Southers Marsh opened for business.

But we’re ready!  Here are the highlights of our state mandated restrictions.

  • No golf carts.  As of today there are no exceptions to this rule.
  • The clubhouse is closed, including the bathrooms
  • Payment should be made online through our tee time reservation system or over the phone before you come to the course.  When you book online you will be asked to prepay for your round.  If you see no availability, make sure you are searching for “W/O Cart.”  Tee times with carts are not currently available.
  • The range and practice green are closed
  • All golfers must maintain proper social distancing of at least 6 feet at all times
  • Tee times are 15 minutes apart – golfers must stay in their car until 15 minutes before their tee time and must return to their car immediately following play. No tailgating
  • We’re not pairing groups up.  If you have a twosome, you’re playing as a twosome.  You may have to be patient.
  • Flagsticks must remain in the hole. The hole liners are raised.  If you hit the cup, it’s in!
  • No rental clubs

Please follow the rules so we can all get through this.

Thank you!

So far this is all we have to go on.  On Tuesday I swore off the Reopening Rumor Mill and on Wednesday I was back in 100%.

Apparently we aren’t going to be given any warning as to when we can reopen.  Also, we have not been given guidance on how to handle bathrooms, carts, flagsticks, tee time intervals, etc.

We will not be taking tee times until we have the specific rules so we make sure our intervals and group sizes are compliant.  Once we are given the all clear, we hope to be open within a couple hours, but for now please plan on making a tee time before you show up to the course.

We appreciate your patience.  Hopefully we have better information soon.

The Golf Course and Range are Closed

Update April 28 – As announced by the governor today, the golf course and range are closed until Monday, May 18.  Let’s hope we are able to open then!  Stay tuned to our twitter feed for any updates.

This is part of a statewide closure of all golf courses in Massachusetts.

Online Shopping Anyone?

Save on your golf this summer by buying multi-round passes online.  No shipping or handling charges.  Dollar value gift cards can be sent by email.

Bog Renovation

We are allowed to continue agricultural practices, and we are in the process of renovating two bogs.  The bog that you hit over on from the back tees on 3 and the one to the left of the fourth fairway are being leveled, getting upgraded irrigation systems, and will be planted with hybrid vines that we will cut from our best existing bogs.  While it will take a few years before these bogs produce a crop, there will be a massive water savings and increased yield for less input.  This project will go a long way to making Southers Marsh Cranberry sustainable.

April 28 Update – Bog 3 (adjacent to the fourth fairway) has been leveled and irrigation installation will be starting next week.  Bog 4 (near third tees and green) is being stripped.

Course Maintenance Continues

We are allowed to maintain the golf course as long as we maintain social distancing protocols.  We came through the winter great, so we’re expecting mint conditions.

April 25 Update – Completed Projects
– It would be nice if it warmed up and stopped raining.
– Greens aerated, seeded where necessary, and topdressed
– Tees aerated, seeded, and topdressed
– Approaches aerated and topdressed
– Tree work and underbrush clearing throughout the course

Something Big is in the Works

More on this later, but here’s a teaser…. stay tuned.

April 28 Update – Toptracer technology installation scheduled for mid-April is still on hold due to travel restrictions.  Building 95% complete otherwise.

As always, thank you for your continued support.  We wish you all the best, and with any luck we will see you at the course sooner rather than later.  Please stay safe out there.

Sincerely,
Big Will, Willie, and the rest of the Southers Marsh Team

Updated March 31
The golf course and range are closed until Monday, May 4.  Let’s hope we are able to open then.  Stay tuned to our twitter feed for any updates. Thank you for all your support!

This is a statewide closure of all golf courses in Massachusetts.  If courses in Massachusetts are open they are violating the law.

If you would like to contact your legislator and tell them why you think golf courses should be reopened in Massachusetts, that would be great.

We have seen on social media that courses in Rhode Island and Connecticut who are open are encouraging Massachusetts golfers to travel there to play.  This can’t be the intent of the state.

Golf is an outdoor sport played with up to a maximum of 4 players at a time.  We feel people can hold true to the principles of social distancing and play golf at the same time if the proper precautions are taken.

We are hoping we can offer a small haven with some sense of normalcy in this crazy world.  Please stay safe out there.

Updated Monday, March 23

The golf course and range are closed until Tuesday, April 7 at noon. Let’s hope we’re able to reopen then. Be smart, stay safe out there.

Stay tuned to our twitter feed for any updates.  Thank you for all your support!

Updated Sunday, March 22
For the time being, Southers Marsh Golf Club will remain open for golf.  This is subject to change at a moment’s notice.  We are also open based on the weather – if it is cold or wet at all during the day, please check our website, twitter, or call 508-830-3535 before coming over.

Being open is not a decision we have come to lightly.  COVID-19 is a pandemic and there is a State of Emergency in Massachusetts and the nation.  There are real risks involved.  However, we feel people can hold true to the principles of social distancing and play golf at the same time.

If you would like to prepay for your round of golf to avoid coming into the clubhouse at all, please call 508-830-3535 and give your credit card information over the phone.

There will be some necessary modifications to your golf experience.  We are striving for a “touch-free” round.  We have removed the bunker rakes, divot boxes, and water coolers from the golf course.  We are asking people to putt with the flagstick in rather than touching it and removing it.  We will not be pairing up twosomes or singles with each other so you will not be playing with strangers.  We are recommending walking, but if you want carts for each individual player, we will accommodate that.  Obviously, we will not have dine-in food or beverage service, so we will be serving prepackaged food and beverage only to bring onto the course.  We will be diligent in wiping surfaces, door handles, faucet handles, and any other touch points in the clubhouse.  We will be sterilizing cart steering wheels, handles, and seats.  In short we will be doing our best to limit your exposure.  Fortunately, golf is an outdoor sport played with up to a maximum of 4 players at a time.

Please use your own best judgement.  If you are at a higher risk of getting seriously ill from this disease (you’re older, and/or have chronic medical conditions like heart disease, diabetes, or lung disease) please don’t come to Southers Marsh until this pandemic is behind us.  If you feel sick, please do not come to the course.

We are hoping we can offer a small haven with some sense of normalcy in this crazy world.  Please stay safe out there.

Thank you all for another great season. Unfortunately, Mother Nature has not cooperated the last few weeks so we are closing the course and driving range for the season. The Frostbite Tournament is also cancelled.

The pro shop will be open Monday-Saturday 10 AM-3 PM for the sale of gift certificates, memberships, and Southers Marsh apparel and accessories. If you prefer you may buy gift cards, multi-round passes, and memberships online. There is no charge for shipping and handling.  Purchase your 2020 golf membership by January 3 for the best pricing.

Every year we close the golf course for the winter. We do not want to ruin our course conditions for the spring by playing at a time when the grass cannot repair itself. Going into Winter 2020, the turf at Southers Marsh has never been in better condition.  With a reasonable winter, we should be in great shape when we reopen, usually in mid to late March depending on the weather and when the course dries out.

Again, thank you all for your support this past season!  We hope to see you back at the Southers Marsh sooner rather than later!

Thank you,
Big Will, Willie, and the rest of the Southers Marsh Team

The weather has not been particularly cooperative lately, but the golf course will remain open weather permitting until further notice (usually mid-December in a typical year).

Upcoming Schedule
Late Fall Greens Fees are in effect.
Carts must be returned by 4:30.  Greens will not be aerated.

The golf course will be closed on Thanksgiving Day.
Friday, November 29 (Black Friday) is typically a very busy day.  If you are interested in playing on that day, please make a tee time sooner rather than later because we do fill up if the weather is reasonable.

Winter Rates will go into effect on Saturday, November 30.

Thank you all for your continued support!
