Latest Club News

At noon today Southers Marsh opened for business.

But we’re ready!  Here are the highlights of our state mandated restrictions.

  • No golf carts.  As of today there are no exceptions to this rule.
  • The clubhouse is closed, including the bathrooms
  • Payment should be made online through our tee time reservation system or over the phone before you come to the course.  When you book online you will be asked to prepay for your round.  If you see no availability, make sure you are searching for “W/O Cart.”  Tee times with carts are not currently available.
  • The range and practice green are closed
  • All golfers must maintain proper social distancing of at least 6 feet at all times
  • Tee times are 15 minutes apart – golfers must stay in their car until 15 minutes before their tee time and must return to their car immediately following play. No tailgating
  • We’re not pairing groups up.  If you have a twosome, you’re playing as a twosome.  You may have to be patient.
  • Flagsticks must remain in the hole. The hole liners are raised.  If you hit the cup, it’s in!
  • No rental clubs

Please follow the rules so we can all get through this.

Thank you!

So far this is all we have to go on.  On Tuesday I swore off the Reopening Rumor Mill and on Wednesday I was back in 100%.

Apparently we aren’t going to be given any warning as to when we can reopen.  Also, we have not been given guidance on how to handle bathrooms, carts, flagsticks, tee time intervals, etc.

We will not be taking tee times until we have the specific rules so we make sure our intervals and group sizes are compliant.  Once we are given the all clear, we hope to be open within a couple hours, but for now please plan on making a tee time before you show up to the course.

We appreciate your patience.  Hopefully we have better information soon.

The Golf Course and Range are Closed

Update April 28 – As announced by the governor today, the golf course and range are closed until Monday, May 18.  Let’s hope we are able to open then!  Stay tuned to our twitter feed for any updates.

This is part of a statewide closure of all golf courses in Massachusetts.

Online Shopping Anyone?

Bog Renovation

We are allowed to continue agricultural practices, and we are in the process of renovating two bogs.  The bog that you hit over on from the back tees on 3 and the one to the left of the fourth fairway are being leveled, getting upgraded irrigation systems, and will be planted with hybrid vines that we will cut from our best existing bogs.  While it will take a few years before these bogs produce a crop, there will be a massive water savings and increased yield for less input.  This project will go a long way to making Southers Marsh Cranberry sustainable.

April 28 Update – Bog 3 (adjacent to the fourth fairway) has been leveled and irrigation installation will be starting next week.  Bog 4 (near third tees and green) is being stripped.

Course Maintenance Continues

We are allowed to maintain the golf course as long as we maintain social distancing protocols.  We came through the winter great, so we’re expecting mint conditions.

April 25 Update – Completed Projects
– It would be nice if it warmed up and stopped raining.
– Greens aerated, seeded where necessary, and topdressed
– Tees aerated, seeded, and topdressed
– Approaches aerated and topdressed
– Tree work and underbrush clearing throughout the course

Something Big is in the Works

More on this later, but here’s a teaser…. stay tuned.

April 28 Update – Toptracer technology installation scheduled for mid-April is still on hold due to travel restrictions.  Building 95% complete otherwise.

As always, thank you for your continued support.  We wish you all the best, and with any luck we will see you at the course sooner rather than later.  Please stay safe out there.

Sincerely,
Big Will, Willie, and the rest of the Southers Marsh Team
