Congratulations to Dave Marathas, former Southers Marsh employee, who shot 2 workmanlike 64s to claim the title!
Reed Bacchiocchi took a one stroke lead into the final round by making birdies on 17 and 18 on Tuesday to complete his even par 61. Mike Costa (another former employee) was only a shot back and Dave was in third with his 64. Defending champion Andy Gustin shot himself out of contention on the last 4 holes on Tuesday, playing them in 9 over par.
Things started out rocky Saturday morning, as Dave had broken the ring finger on his right hand Thursday night while having a nightmare and falling out of bed. Reed came to the first tee looking like he had seen a ghost after scraping half a bucket on the range, confidence shattered.
The front nine didn’t treat anyone well other than Colin Dillon (low Saturday round at 63) who shot a 32 and Walter Hartley who had a 33. Unfortunately for them, they had already sustained heavy damage on Tuesday with matching 72s. Daraugh McCann, who had a magical 66 on Tuesday, came out firing in the second to last group with birdies on 1 and 2. Unfortunately, too much too soon for him, and he immediately bogeyed 3 and doubled 4 before making another birdie on 5, and hopping on the bogey train from there.
Dave was only able to pick up a stroke on the front nine, and as the leaders made the turn it was a four horse race.

The back nine is where the men separated themselves from the boys. Dave made a birdie on 11 and when Reed doubled 12 he took the lead by a stroke and never let it go. Both players bogeyed 13 leaving Dave just one stroke up over Reed and Mike. A birdie on 15 for Dave and a bogey for Mike left Dave free to par in on the last 3 holes with a comfortable 3 stroke win.
